The common causes of insomnia, while they seem to be high in number, all turn out to be related. Insomnia is a disorder that manifests itself as in the act of sleeping or trying to sleep. That’s right; the problem you are having either falling asleep or staying that way is suffered by people all over the world and has a name. Many people would like to solve this seep disorder to be able to get on with their lives. A positive note on insomnia is that there are some types of this disorder that generally resolves themselves.

Generally, if you are suffering from insomnia for a physical reason, you can expect it to go away on it’s own. These are usually some degree of pain or discomfort that stems from injuries, ailments and sicknesses which can be treated.

The most common causes of insomnia, however, are depression, anxiety, and stress, not physical illness. Anxiety and depression are both generally, but not always, caused by stress. Stress can be seen as the pressure that drives people to strive hard and also to fold in. Stress can be a positive driving factor for many people, one which energizes them and makes them do their best work in order to achieve their goals; for others, however, stress is something to be feared and avoided. Stress is perhaps tops among the common causes of insomnia simply because just about everyone is exposed to one level of stress or another in the course of their daily lives. Stress can be seen in the work place, at home and when with family and friends or with other employee and employers.

Anxiety can be a common cause of insomnia because a fearful and anxious person will have a difficult time sleeping as well as maintaining sleep. It is common because many people are anxious and fearful over something in their lives most of the time. Whether you are an adult or a child, when you are in your bed alone and everything is quiet, whatever has caused you stress during the day can come back to cause fear and anxiety that will prevent adequate sleep. There are also other things to be anxious or fearful for such as loss of work, loss of loved ones and many others.

Another of the common causes of insomnia is depression, whether it be the illness or a fleeting feeling. Depression can be a source of torture to some people, with insomnia being just one of many painful symptoms. The loss and loneliness that depression generate can cause a person to lose sleep simply due to the sheer strength of the feelings. These strong feelings will cause physical reactions in the person who is having them. A person who is depressed will not only suffer from insomnia, but will become lethargic or more anxious due to the slowing down of the body that naturally occurs as a result of the depression.
